Transitioning to Renewables
In line with the BPA’s core ethos;
“To create a social and economic environment in which the citizens of Australia are Occupied and are able to Prosper”
We believe that a full and sustainable transition to renewable energy sources is both economically and socially responsible.
We must also ensure that the transitioning process does not try and leap frog available technology in order to appease the small more radical sectors.
This process will take decades; it will not and cannot be achieved overnight.
It is in the best interests of Australia to embrace this process as the rest of the world economies also change to embrace renewables.
Our traditional Fossil fuel export markets will decline in value and quantity over the next 30 to 50 years, to a point where they will no longer exist, we must prepare for this.
We are a lucky country in so far as we have abundant Solar Energy, Ample Wind and are surrounded by seas, which give us an enviable advantage over our Northern Hemisphere trading partners.
It is already cheaper to producer electrical energy via solar panels over traditional coal powered steam generation; however the Achilles heel to renewables is reliability and consistency of delivery.
For this to be resolved we have no alternative other than to wait for technology to develop an affordable solution. There are literally thousands of scientists and businesses spending Billions of dollars on research and development for this very purpose. It will happen. We will encourage continued investment into this area by providing generous Tax concessions into renewable storage research and development projects.
We will make available grants for Universities who are conducting research into affordable energy storage technologies.
Every Day Australians will also be able to claim better than 100% tax deductions on donations made to recognised and endorsed research projects.
During this hiatus, as we wait for technology, we still must ensure there is a consistent energy supply at a price point that we, as a community can afford. To this end we have a policy which will cover this issue.
It is called the “Energy Supply Policy”
