Firstly, I have not been a political animal.
Like most of you I had a disdain for our political leaders and the system that we now have.
However…….
On the 23rd June of 2106 the United Kingdom voted to withdraw from the European Union, and on the 8th November 2016 Donald Trump was elected by the people of the United States as President.
These two events caused me great concern.
Not because of the results, they were the choice of the people, but because of the underlying reason.
In both cases, the decision by the people was in essence a democratic civil revolution against the Governments of the day.
This is a Global trend and here in Australia, we are also seeing a move towards this.
The issue is both simple and complex and there is no one solution but we can make incremental changes that I believe will help resolve the issue.
The issue is a FEAR (whether actual or perceived) by the people of losing control of their Country and their Cultural Identity.
Now I fully realise that there will be people who will play the “Racists Card” but it’s not about racism.
Your heritage, beliefs or sexual preferences are of no interest to me, my only criteria is “Are you a Human Being”
But preservation of “Cultural Identity” has been the reason behind many conflicts throughout Human history. Right up to present day.
Australia is isolated geographically from Great Britain and North America, culturally similar, but not the same.
We are part of Asia, with our major trading partners being in the Asia precinct even though we rely heavily on alliances with the United States and Great Britian for our National Security.
Due to our Population density, we cannot afford to isolate ourselves from our Asian trading partners, in other words a policy of “Isolation” would be economically disastrous for us as a nation.
Australia does not have a Large Scale Manufacturing Industry anymore. To sight just one example, we no longer have a Car Manufacturing Industry. This has been lost forever.
We live in a new world where Disruptive Technology has changed, fundamentally, our knowledge base and our ability to communicate seamlessly and to a great extent, without censorship.
We no longer accept the word of our leaders as gospel, and unfortunately our leaders deserve this.
The people do not believe or trust in our system of Government, and why should they.
Parliamentarians behaving like children, pointless point scoring, blatant waste and excesses the list goes on and it is all out there every day.
Without meaningful decision making reform we will not be able to re-engage the public in our Political Process.
The system itself is not broken, for all its faults our democratic process has and will continue to serve us well.
Our Constitution is now nearly 120 years old, and like any 120 year old it needs a face lift to freshen it up and make it relevant to the modern age that we now live in.
The task is to modernise without altering the intent of the constitution so we once again have true community representation in the decision making process.
All these policies are solution based to create a united nation where we all live by the same rules.
I believe that, by and large, the Australian Public wants their government to be invisible on a daily basis, getting on with the job and delivering inclusive national solutions in a rapidly changing world that creates a level playing field for everyone.
We all should have the ability to prosper and be occupied.
We are a nation of “Compassionate Capitalists”
The Unions and Chamber of Commerce will not support this movement as it is not in either of their best (vested) interests.
This will only succeed if ordinary everyday Australians get involved and support this movement.
It is up to you.
